School's Back in Session

I can't believe the summer is over and yet it seemed like such a long time ago that we went to Germany for our summer vacation.  My children started school yesterday and it is already crazy.  With my son in marching band for high school the season started during the summer and they go through Thanksgiving.  The first football game is supposed to be Friday, but with Irene possibly off the coast it could be tomorrow.  So far we aren't supposed to get the hurricane winds, just tropical storm winds.  Thank goodness.  Girl Scouts starts Saturday with my daughter and off she goes.  I, on the other hand, am putting together a quote to do a mural for a new farmer's market in our area.  It will be the biggest one I have ever done at 18 feet high and about 44 feet wide.  Trying to come up with a design that big and figure out cost and pricing is a bit daunting.  However, I must admit that it is nice to be considered to do the mural in the first place.  People are finally remembering that I do murals.  Yeah!  I'll post a picture when it is finished if I get the job.

I also want to promote two etsy shops in my Palm Beach County Etsy team. The first one, Purposely Designed, has some really incredible pictures of butterflies, as well as unique papers.  Take a look, I'm sure something will strike your fancy.

The second one is Island Junkie and she has some really fun and bright designs with that beachy feel.  Her quirky hair flowers are a great way to finish that festive outfit.

I hope that you have a great week and your little ones (or not so little ones) have a great start to the school year.

Delayed postings ---

I had promised, mostly to myself, to try to do something creative every day.  I was on a roll and then had a set back.  I still plan to try to do something creative, but have been out of sorts the last week and a half.  My son is in the marching band at his high school and they have been having small camps off and on all summer and then the last two and a half weeks they have been in full band camp.  A week ago last Friday, tragedy struck.  Their drum major passed out at band camp (thankfully not while he was on the directing stand) and never woke up.  They flew him to the nearest trauma hospital and put a shunt in his brain.  He evidently had a genetic disorder that caused thinning of his veins in his brain and it had ruptured and caused bleeding between the hemispheres of his brain.  He passed away that Sunday and his family, the band and their parents have all been grieving the loss of such an awesome young man.  He knew what he wanted out of life and tried to go about it in the most honest way he could and tried to be a mentor to as any of the other students he thought needed a little extra help.  I didn't know him well, but had driven him to band camp a few summers ago with my son and enjoyed the time with him.  The band is trying to continue on without him and make it to be state champs to honor him.  Actually, they all seem to feel that it would be a failure not to make the champs and I think they can do it for Alexander. Sorry this is not very upbeat but that is what is going on.

Please remember to tell your kids and family that you love them and remember to cherish every moment you have.

Make it a great day and do something creative

Featured Palm Beach Etsy Group 8/1

Happy Midweek to everyone!  Looks like I am still not very good about getting on to do my blogging.  Although, I am getting it done a couple of times a week, so that is an improvement.  This week's features for the Palm Beach County Etsy Team are Marion and Emily.
Marion has some great jewelry.  I especially like the silver and garnet earrings that have such a light look about them, yet very unique.  Stop by and check out her shop.  Maybe something will have your name written all over it.

Emily has some great items that are all either made from recycled material or are all natural. Some  of her pillow remind me of the vintage crazy quilts that were all made out of scraps from other projects.  Very fun to try to guess what each piece had come from.   Her earth friendly stuffed owl made me laugh.  He would be great on a bed or sitting on the couch checking out everything in the house.

Come back tomorrow and see what new things I have been up to.
